Coed y Brenin has its own trail running centre. Already popular for its Mountain Bike trails and the Mountain Bike Visitor centre, Coed y Brenin now caters for the trail runner. Looking for a great challenge and the perfect location for a holiday in North Wales? Take advantage of the beautiful surroundings of the forest park. The Goldrush Trail is just 200m from our front door. A great route, with some brilliant technical sections and some fast sections giving a good mix of running. The route details can be found here.

Coed y Brenin has five way marked running trails,  ideal for novice and experienced runners. The routes are hilly and pass through three river valleys. Panoramic views of Snowdonia make for a stunning backdrop. Cascading rivers and plunge pools guarantee challenging running in the Coed y Brenin Forest Park.

The Goldrush Trail

8.5 mile strenuous miles on this trail running route, with 420m of climbing. The route will take you over the Cefndeuddwr ridge, with a descent the Afon Mawddach. An aerial bridge at Tyddyn Gwladys leads to a climb to the Copper Bog before making your way back via the Afon Mawddach and the Afon Eden on your return to the visitor centre

Sarn Helen Trails

The Sarn Helen trail has two options; long and short. 5.2miles and 2.7miles respectively. Both a rated as moderate difficulty with 97-198m of climbing depending on the route you take.

Both routes climb up to the Cefndeuddwr ridge. The long route will take you to the Afon Gain and the ruins of Penmaen Farm before climbing back to the Sarn Helen. The return route takes you past the medieval ironworks the back to the visitor centre. The short route will take you up to the Sarn Helen then back down to the visitor centre.

Coed y Brenin Half Marathon Trail

This is 13.5mile Strenuous route with 727m of Climbing. The route starts on a climb to Cefndeuddwr then a descent to Afon Mawddach. Climbing again to the copper bog then down again the Afon Wen.

After another climb, Cynant Hyll with its cascading stream is the next step, where you’ll be treated to some great views.

More descent and running on the valley floor brings you to the final climb back over the Cefndeuddwr ridge. From here you’ll return to the visitor centre.

Trail Marathon Wales

Popular on the trail running calendar, Coed y Brenin  in Snowdonia  hosts Trail Marathon Wales. This trail follows the half-marathon route from the Visitor Centre and takes in many of the locations mentioned in the above routes

Run Coed y Brenin Trail Running Centre

Located in Coed y Brenin forest park in Dolgellau, Gwynedd, the trail running centre caters for runners and walkers.

The running centre has replicated the mountain bike centre, but for trail runners. Spend the day running, and if your trail running shoes have seen better days, why not hire out some quality trail running shoes at the centre and go for a run on the Shoe Test Route.

The shoe test route is a short 1.05 mile Moderate route with just 50m of climbing up to Cefndeuddwr crossroads, before taking an orienteering path before  a descent back to the visitor centre.

The centre is popular all year round, not just in the holidays and runners get the chance to run the dedicated trails in the forest park.

Salomon Trail Marathon Wales

Taking place in June, the Salomon Trail Marathon Wales will have full (26 mile / 42km) and half (13mile / 21 km) marathon race routes in the stunning trails and tracks of the world-renowned Coed y Brenin forest in the Snowdonia National Park.

Enduro Trail Wales

Enduro Trail Wales  is a new concept in trail running. It lends its philosophies from Enduro racing in the world of MTB. We believe that this exciting new event underlines our vision of advancing trail running at Run. Coed y Brenin!

Compressport Trail 10k Wales

Taking place in September the Compressport Trail 10k Wales is the latest addition to the event roster at Run. Coed y Brenin.

Petzl Night Trail Wales

Taking place on a Saturday evening in October at Coed y Brenin forest park in Wales, the Petzl Night Trail Wales is a race with a difference!

Imagine a runnable 3-4km route, not too technical, with enough elevation to sort out the runners. Imagine a race that starts in the dusk of an Autumn Saturday evening, and ends in full darkness. Imagine an event with a real party atmosphere, with a DJ, bar, hot food and a race arena lit up with flood lights.

Buff Winter Trail Wales

Taking place in January, the annual Buff Winter Trail Wales will take in the Trail Marathon Wales half marathon route across the same stunning trails and tracks of the world-renowned Coed y Brenin Forest Park in the Snowdonia National Park – but in Winter conditions!
