Coed y Brenin and the surrounding area is perfect if you seeking adventure activities during your stay, with a  wide range of  adventure sports available in Coed y Brenin and more still just a drive away. The forest park caters for walkers, trail runners and Mountain Bikers, with the best trails and walks based around the Visitor area, accessible from our door.

The high mountains of Snowdonia are only an hours drive away from Mostyn Cottage. If you would like to explore the peaks of Snowdonia, Mostyn Cottage can supply a Mountain Leader to guide you if required. Bala Lake – North Wales

Nearby Bala lake is a drive of 25-30mies and home to the Bala Adventure and Water Sports Centre. The centre offers a range of outdoor pursuits. Qualified instructors are on hand to help all abilities get the most out of the range of activities on offer.

Canoeing/Kayaking North Wales

Courses available for kayaking in North Wales at Bala lake. From white water rapids to gentle river canoeing and kayaking in Snowdonia.

Climbing/abseiling

Rock climbing and abseiling around the Bala area range from craggy mountains and sheer slate ascents. Snowdonia is famous for modern rock climbing!

Windsurfing

Windsurfing is offered at Bala. Courses using the newest equipment, with qualified instructors  are on hand to help you improve your skills or develop new ones. Windsurfing equipment is also available for hire.

Sailing

Bala Watersports offer sailing courses, and being a lake, predictable winds are a bonus for sailors and windsurfers seeking some consistent sailing.

Archery and Camp Craft

The Welsh are proud of their heritage in the sport of Archery. Archery at Bala is a fun activity for the whole family. Like archery, camp craft can also be enjoyed by families. Build shelters and learn survival skills using natural materials found in the area.

Raft building

Ideal for family fun and great team building. Build a raft from a design with materials provided, then test out your creation on Bala Lake.

Mountain biking in North Wales

There are a number of mountain biking locations in North Wales, including the Coed y Brenin trails on our doorstep at Mostyn Cottage.

Forest singletrack, adrenalin pumping downhill and killer climbs around the Bala area will give you even more trails to ride on your mountain bike holiday in North Wales.

With only 25-30miles between  Coed y Benin Mountain Bike centre and Bala Lake, it is possible to do a mini tour of the area, taking in some of the best MTB riding North Wales has to offer.

Hill walking

The surrounding mountains at Bala are steeped in history.  Aran Benllyn, Arenig Fawr, the Berwyn mountains, Mynydd Nodol, Rhobell Fawr, Moel Llyfnant, Cader Idris: all these names are rich in history. Bala Lake Walks in the Snowdonia National Park are some of the best in North Wales, covering  moorland, farmland, rivers, forests and lakes.

What is Gorge walking?

Gorge walking, or canyoning at one of the best gorges in North Wales will see the adventure seeker make the most of the diverse geography of the surrounding rivers. Traverse the gorges by abseiling down waterfalls. Take shortcuts by plunging into deep pools then slide down fast-flowing torrents traversing wet, slippery rock!

Whitewater rafting at Bala

Using the dam released river that feeds Bala Lake, white water rafting at Bala is a truly awesome experience.

The National White Water Centre, based on the River Tryweryn  in Snowdonia National Park is dam-controlled so it’s rapids run all year around.

Triathlon

Bala Middle Distance Triathlon takes place in June and the Standard Distance in September.

Wild Swimming – North Wales

Wild swimming in the local lakes and rivers will satisfy your open water addiction! The Gwynfynydd Goldmine in Coed y Brenin Forest, is a  deep plunge pool fed by the cascading waters of Afon Mawddach (River Mawddach). Afterwards, the visitor centre will provide you with sustenance after your revitalising plunge in the frigid waters.

Adventure Sports

North Wales has so much more.  Get Wet between Bala and Corwen in North Wales offers Outdoor Activities including High ropes, Paintball and Go Karting.

Zipworld is in Bethesda includes a pair of zip lines a mile long. Riders can exceed 100mph, 500ft high!

Only a 40 minute drive away from Mostyn Cottage the Zip World Titan  is the first 4 person zip line in Europe. The Titan is currently the largest ‘Zip Zone’ in Europe. There are three zip lines – Alfa, Bravo and Charlie. Riders travel over 2000m with a total of 8,000m over all the lines.

After zipping down the longest line, Alpha, it is only a short walk to Bravo. Charlie returns the riders to the start at Llechwedd Slate Cavern.

Zipworld Titan is open from Spring until Autumn.

Bounce Below and Zip World Caverns, also make up part of the Zip World experience.
