Coed y Brenin Mountain Biking
Coed y Brenin, North Wales, was where it all began. 25 years ago, trails made especially for Mountain Biking were starting to appear with waymarked directions.
Earmarked as a Mountain Bike race venue at the beginning of the 1990's, and following an early NWMBA race held in 1991, the forest trails were discovered by the knobby tyre fraternity as the area was discovering a new form of tourism. Visitor numbers began to swell.
The early trails; red and yellow trails, were basic, mainly forest fire roads, but with directions for Mountain Bikers to follow. As interest grew the technicality of the trails evolved. With the inception of single track trails, the Forestry Commission began to see numbers of visitors increase furthermore.
The Red Bull Route, 11km in length when it opened, attracted Mountain Bikers from far and wide to ride this iconic trail. Following on were the Karrimoor and MBR trails. Now one of the most visited and easy to reach Mountain Bike Centres in North Wales, Coed Y Brenin Mountain Biking is also known as one of the most popular MTB destinations in the world.
